Some of the techniques and tools we use include:
Imaging using special hardware
When done correctly, this allows the imaging to proceed while ignoring
check sum errors, and the hardware reads the actual bytes of data – which are
often not corrupted. To be able to do this – i.e., , to read data,
while bypassing the 8th ("check") bit, you must use something
other than the Operating System itself.
Another reason to do imaging is that it minimizes an unstable disk’s
exposure to possible additional damage.
In addition, many data recovery professionals emphasize the importance of a clean room environment.
First of all, only when opening a disk should this even be an issue. And only about 20% of recovery disks need to be physically opened.
Second, a true, sterile $50,000- $100,000 large clean room used in bacteriological research is NEVER required for data recovery work. In actuality, a relatively inexpensive table-top enclosure, with an open front and purification filter is all that is required -- and we do have this. How many large, fully sterile and full-enclosed clean rooms exist in New York City is a number open to conjecture -- but I doubt there are as many out there as data recovery websites would have you believe.
Please don't be taken in by technical double-speak and hype -- which some may use to jack up their rates. |
